Are you on the right road?
You are the only person who can answer this question for yourself.
Here in this life, we all like sincere people. But, if life has taught us anything, it is this often so common but almost always late realization that sincerity is not enough. Sooner than later, many do find out they were wrong despite their sincerities. And depending on the issues concerned, the consequences could be catastrophic.
Such was the case of Air Transat Flight 236 on August 24, 2001. Unknown to the pilot, his plane had a leaky tank enroute the transatlantic flight bound for Lisbon, Portugal, from Toronto, Canada.
Fully airbone and tens of thousands of feet up in the air, the plane ran out of fuel because of a fuel leak caused by improper maintenance. Drop by drop, the fuel tank leaked away this indispensable airflight resource.
As reported, all ended well as the pilot and first flight officer glided the plane to a successful emergency landing in the Azores, saving all 306 people onboard.
Other flights were so lucky.
In the cases recorded, both the pilots and maintenamce technicians were sure their planes fuel tanks and the associated monitoring instruments were OK. But they were dead wrong.
Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Matthew 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
No matter how sincere you are, taking the wrong road and route, or following the wrong direction will certainly lead you to the wrong destination. And when it comes to the matter of your eternal destiny, taking the wrong road will certainly lead you to wandering all your life into failure, futility, or even death and perdition.
Because, not all roads lead to heaven.
In the Bible, God sent His prophet to warn the nation of ancient Israel of His displeasures against them for their sinful ways. The message was stark and straight to its target. The consequences were dare.
Haggai 1:5
Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
Consider the road you're travelling on? Are you on God's highway?
Isaiah 55:6-8
6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts:
and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
God's ways are not the same as humans' ways. The road that leads to heaven is the way of repentance. And God is calling you today to repentance.
2 Corinthians 6:2
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
And as you read this message, do not delay because tomorrow may be too late.
Hebrews 3:7-8
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
Not all roads lead to heaven.
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Come to him through repentance and faith. Repentance and turning to Christ is how you demonstrate your faith in God and His word. You can't profess that you have faith in God while still enjoying both "big" and "small" sins.
The right way is the way of repentance and faith in Christ.
Acts 20:21
Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
You can't save yourself. Neither can your sincerity save you. Only Jesus can save you.
John 3:16-18
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 10:9-10, 13
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
