Now, What of All Those Christian Celebrities?
Because, sooner than later, everyone will show their true colors.
As a Christian, itβs so easy to get swayed by fake testimonies and false professions of some celebrity Christians.
Donβt get me wrong. God wants all men to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. The message of salvation is for all. But when it comes to the testimony of professing believers, we need discernment to separate the chaff from the wheat.
Because these celebrities command so much followers, itβs so easy for others to be misled even if the lives and testimonies of their celebrities are against the truth of the Scriptures
King Nebuchadnezzar also gave a testimony. But.
In his day, King Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful man in the then known world. After his encounter with the living God through the ministry of Prophet Daniel, he enthused his empire with glowing testimonies about the power of the One and Only True God.
But his testimony was based on empty professions.
Why? How?
King Nebuchadnezzar's testimony never tallied up with his life's choices?
Many of us would have basked and rejoiced in his "confession of faith". Praise God. Hallelujah, this powerful heathen king, has finally bowed down and exalted God Almighty.
Hear the king's testimony,
46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, prostrate before Daniel, and commanded that they should present an offering and incense to him.
47 The king answered Daniel, and said, βTruly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret.β
~ Daniel 2:46-47
Sorry, you've just been misled by a celebrity's aura. Right in the heels of that confession, we read in the next chapter.
β1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
4 Then a herald cried aloud: βTo you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages,
5 that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up;
6 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.β
~ Daniel 3: 1, 4β6Indeed, Nebuchadnezzar testified nicely and truly about God Almighty. But deep in his heart, he was still a pagan and opposed to God and righteousness.
All souls are precious before God. Therefore, by all means Christians, like the Good Shepherd, are to rejoice over one sinner that repented than over the 99 that need no repentance. Our joy must be embracing of all new Christians, celebrities, inclusive.
But,
We must not get carried away by the superficial confessions of professing Christians whose life doesn't measure up to the new life they claim to have received in Christ.
~ Pastor Dr. W. F. Kumuyi
While we are not to go about pontificating and judging other believersβ professions of faith, their confessions, and testimonies, all believers need to answer this question first.
Does my life measure up with my profession?
Does the lives of my celebrities measure up with their professions?
16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
Matthew 7:16β17
This is a wake up call to all Christians. Does your life rhyme with your profession of faith in Christ?
